Time to go...

Last pictures from France today!

It's time to go back to Stendal!

We've got lot of fun visiting with Nadia and we hope you've got so much curiosity and fun as us!

We have understood that this country is rich in monuments and places to visit and that even small villages have their stories to be told... So many things to see!

We hope we will back soon in France to visit others places!

For the present time, we are going to new horizons!
Bye Nadia and her small village GAS!

Last weekend in Gas

It was our last weekend within Nadia's family in Gas, France and we had some time with Laticia, the youngest daughter of Nadia.
She showed us her "collge", this is where 12-15y old are going to school (after it is "lyce" where her sister Chlo is in Chartres)...It is a small one with 500 students coming from the various villages around. It is located in Gallardon.
She explains some facts she is proud of.The particularity of the collge is it's got a seismic station for educational vocation. They sometimes register seisms from over the world.... and a few weeks ago they'd got a glider in the playground! In fact the oldest students can pass the first level of aviation patent associated with the gliders club near...
And guess what? Just in front of it, at our feet is flowing Louis XIV's canal... Do you remember our first visit?
Oh! Is there blue sky? Yes! It was waiting for our last days...
Gallardon is a small town with some medieval houses, a beautiful church with a really high pointed steeple and the ruin of a old tower from its medieval castle (the only vestige), both are showing from far... Nadia is  wondering how the tower is still up and Laeticia had studied it: the wall is more than 4 meters thick, and the rest of the castle was destroyed in 1421, quite 600 years that this tower is watching over the village and was never destroyed... Strangth! It is called the "Shoulder of Gallardon".

Nadia's husband is taking train to Paris in Epernon, another town with medieval houses, wine presses and an old church with a beautiful inside. Laeticia explained that she'd got the possibility to visit the vault where there are an ossuary and a sort of mummified person, it was the vault of the "lord" of the place... She said it was really frightened... We are totally agreeing!
Far from castles, Royalty and others strange stories we've met those last days, Nadia has a hobby: gardening... Because there was a lot of wind last night, she needed to check her garden... Last time, the tempest had broken a fence. This time nothing... But she was surprised to see some flowers are already growing... And we made stock of parsley.
Sunday it was a great day, the Chandeleur... This day we eat "crpes", sort of fine and large pancakes... sweet or savory versions!
The old tradition says that if you are able to make jump a "crpe" and it turns in the air before it comes back in your frying pan, all with one hand and a gold coin in the other hand, then you will be rich all the year to come.

The palace of Versailles -last part-

Did you like visiting the Palace of Versailles with us?  It is so amazing with all its marbles and gold!
Versailles is well known too for its gardens... But in winter they don't look as nice as in summer... Most of the statues are covered to be protected from ice over, and they look like ghosts... Most of the groves are closed and we can't see their fountains... and this year, the main fountain behind the castle is going under a full renovation and all the tubes have been removed...
But we can imagine how it could be in summer.

After the visit of the inside, we stop to picnic on a bench... With such a beautiful decor of the Ornemental Pools or Water Parterres

Each of the 2 pools are decorated with reclining statues symbolising the rivers of France.

Those pools are faced to the Hall of Mirrors.
Next stage of the gardens is Latone Ornemental Lake. Its fountain is being actually renovating and has been totally removed...
From there, we have a view to the Royal Pathway to the Great Canal.
On each side are the different bosquets with various decors and fountains.

This is the Colonnade bosquet and next is the Encelade bosquet.

Across the bosquets are a lot of paths and it can be like a labyrinthe. See us? We were looking for the good direction... Right, left? Where can we find a plan?

Just before the Grand Canal is the Appolo Ornemental Lake.
We went back to the castle...

...to have a look at the Swiss Lake and the Orangery.
It was time to go back at home before having too many traffic jams...
We really enjoyed the visit... We've seen a few castles this week but this one is really awesome!

The palace of Versailles -second part-

Next part of our visit...
When we are in this room, the War Salon, we are just before the most known picture of the Versailles castle... Do you guess what we are talking about? There are some clues, look carefully!
See the mirrors... Yes, we are in the HALL OF MIRRORS!
Do you see Nadia in the mirror?
The painting of the ceiling are figuring Louis XIV and some of his great achievements.

Waouh! It's really amazing!
Adjacent to the Hall of Mirrors is the King's bedroomchamber. It is faced to the Marble Cour and to the rising sun.

We next visit the Queen's appartments with her bedchamber.
We went along others rooms with many paintings... Mainly the Battles Gallery and a corridor with lots of statues.

We didn't visit others appartments which are only with a guide.
The visit of the inside palace is finished... But there are the outside to see!
Next and last part is coming tomorrow...
